Irene offers harbor tours
Like me, Irene is born from wood — a classic fishing vessel from the 1920s. Her current owners Leland and Cecily Parsons purchased her for $1 back in 2006. With plenty of elbow grease and generous support from the community, the couple was able to restore her to her current state with all the modern electronics, yet leaving her old fashioned charm.
And maybe more impressive yet,
Irene rides in the name of education. Her passengers will learn about the harbor’s history on her tours and the money raised from these one-hour journeys will go toward educational grants that will benefit the local fishermen’s families.
Stroll down the “D” Dock just off Johnson Pier
and you’ll see Irene at the very end. Starting this Saturday, tours are expected to leave four times each day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The ticket price is $17 for adults and $7 for kids between 6 and 13. Children under 6 are free. For more information, contact Chase Montara, director of maritime activities, at 650-533-4385. Just don’t forget to stop by and say “hi” to me too.
